Chord DESTINY POWER : Episode 18
Darlington is in London for an official assignment. He visits James, a schoolmate in his office at the Zambian Embassy. He knocks and opens the door.
James::: Are my eyes deceiving me?
Darlington :::: (laughing surprisingly) Is this real? James! Are you the one?
James::: (standing from a seat and walking to embrace him) You are highly welcome. Please, take a seat.
Darlington ::: (Sits) Long time no see!
James:::: It’s a pleasure meeting you after such a long time.
Darlington ::::: Thank you.
James:::: What can I offer you? Stout, wine or…..
Darlington::::: haha Don’t put yourself to any bother.
James:::: How is life in general?
Darlington:::: Well, life is not very difficult.
James ::::: Without mincing words, I can see you are looking good.
Darlington:::: haha looking good with grey hairs!! (patting his head fondly)
James:::: Perhaps you don’t know that you are looking younger than your age. (They burst into laughter)… What of your family?Darlington:::: Everybody is fine. What of yours?
James:::: They are fine. (pauses) Where are you based?
Darlington:::: Am based in Zambia and seldom in London. I work with the National filling station as a Managing Director, and I also run a private business, Darli Refinery Company here in London..
James:::: That is wonderful! (changing the topic) Do you hear any news about our school friends?
Darlington:: Chisala is the Manger at Nation Drugs Production Company, Lusaka while the head girl is a lecturer at UNZA and she is also a solicitor.
James:::: That is good news. I trust Chisala. He had been nursing that ambition right from our primary school.
Darlington:::: For how long have you heard from Mwaba, the senior prefect? I haven’t come across him since he lost his parents..
James::::: (Astonished) For so long!
Darlington::::: Is it up to that?
James::: He lost his parents in the fatal motor accident shortly after our graduation in 2006.
Darlington::: Yes, you are right. It looks as if it was just yesterday. Time is ageing.
James::::: We suddenly ran into each other in kabwe when I was Campaigning for Executive Chairman of my Local Government a few years back. He was a Chief Medical Director by then.
Darlington ::: Really, Chief Medical Director!
James:::: Not only that, he is also the Managing Director of Mwaba's Specialists Hospitals. He has branches in England, U.S.A, France, South Africa so on and with the headquarters in Kabwe, Zambia.
Darlington::: To succeed in life is not on there platter of gold but on the platform of persistence, hard work and endurance.
James:::: Whoever that sails through the troubled waters is a true winner. It is not what we often refer to as problems that are actually problems in the real sense of events, most are even blessings in disguise.
When we believe there is no way, God will open another way in a miraculous manner. The purpose of life is to achieve and fulfill our destiny. Destiny they say can never be changed or avoided.
Darlington:::: Inspire of the hurdles of life, he fulfilled his destiny to my surprise because Medicine is very expensive to study. No one can survive the journey alone because a tree cannot make a forest.
James:::: Through man, we can become a winner, an achiever of success and take our dominant position in life towards the fulfillment of our vision. Everything in life is a matter of destiny.
Darlington:::: Yeah bro So, you were once an Executive Chairman of your Local Government?
James::::: smiles….. Yes bro and after my tenure as Chairman, I was also elected as a Mayor in Kabwe.
Darlington::::: (Pondering over the school days) And you have been dreaming of politics from our Secondary Schools.
James :::: Even when I was in University, I was also elected as Students Union president. If a man hasn’t discovered something he would die for, he is not fit to live. Decision is a matter of choice.
Darlington:::: (At this moment, a story comes to his memory) James, do you remember Sir K?
James:::: (Pauses and thinks for a while) You mean Joe that forcibly broke our lockers and stole our text books?
Darlington::::: He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
James::: A man’s character can never leave him. There’s a way that seems right to a man but in the end, it leads to death. Whatever we sow in life, we must reap.
