Chord DESTINY POWER :Episode 4 and 5

Episode 4
Mwaba suddenly screams in his dream and runs from the room to his parents room. The wailings of Mwaba wake Elijah and Martha. She holds him as he breaths hard and is visibly shaking.
Martha: Quickly and abruptly Whats wrong with you?
Elijah: in a cool voice Mwaba whats the matter….Mwaba didn’t give any response and then Martha shouted at him.
Martha: Are you dumb? can't you say what's wrong with you eeh?
Mwaba: I had a terrible d-r-e-a-m.

Martha: Why are you shivering? Were masquerades running after you in the dream?Mwaba shaking his head No Mum. I…..I found myself in a pool of blood. I was surrounded by a crowd and was rushed to the hospital.
Martha: (fear runs through her. She holds her head firmly in her palms). May God forbid your bad dream! (flicking her fingers over his head) It's over to your enemy. If anyone plans evil against you evil will befall him. When the wood insects gathers it's sticks on its head it carries them. When birds call for rains on it's head it rains. Its he who dumbs ashes that ashes trail…clearing her throat Unless I have hands on evil but if I don’t no one can pull a strand on hair out of my child’s head.

Elijah: Dear, let us be patient and look into this matter carefully. There is a proverb that says, if a child is cutting down a tree, the elders will be looking at the direction where it will fall. It seems as if Mwaba discuss with someone about road accident.
Martha: Did you? (Mwaba shakes his head) Elijah interrupted don’t nod your head like a lizard. can't you talk again?
Mwaba: Except when our English teacher asked me to mention the causes of road accident in the English passage we read.
Martha: It may be the story of the passage he took to the dream. What do you suggest, dear?

Elijah: I think so. Martha in a deep breath holds Elijah's hand to feel her chest…..just feel my heart pounding under my ribs.
Elijah: God will forbid any bad dream.
Martha: Sure sure (looking up to heaven with palms open) A few hours later, Mwaba sleeps again. They heard him snoring. Mwaba had another dreadful dream. He sees himself as a destitute, haggling with customers over the price of the luggage he carried…Martha calls

Mwaba! Mwaba! Mwaba! He answered and slept again… Mwaba get up! A child who desires sleeplessness for his parents would also not sleep… Wake up! Up! Mwaba opens his eyes and sleep off.
Elijah: We can't set a roof ablaze and sleep under it. How can a prince in a palace dream to himself as a slave? I am tired of all this awful and incredible dreams of Mwaba.
Martha: A dream is like a parable..It may speak volumes of good fortune or vice versa..
Elijah: I’m completely out of my with over the dreams.

Martha: Did you have another child beside him? Aren’t you a man? The horns are not too heavy for a cow to bear. There is no problem without a solution. I will suggest Maboka, the chief Priest at Kanjela village to consult Mabu the father of Nati. All the hidden events shall be revealed to us.
Martha beating Mwaba gently Will you get up?
Mwaba stretches himself and wakes up. He yawns recklessly and rubs the sleep out of his eyes, finding his parents sitting and deliberating. Mwaba scratching himself and ask Dad, aren’t you sleeping? Mum What is the matter?

Elijah: We heard you negotiating price in your dream.
Now facing his wife and ignoring Mwaba…Dear, what if I first call Dr. Mooba to come and examine him?Martha: It is a welcome idea…..Early in the morning, Elijah takes his phone and dials Dr. Mooba's phone number. In a twinkle of an eye, Dr. Mooba arrives in a white Jeep. Dr Mooba walks to the bed in which Mwaba lies and carries out different tests, but nothing is detected. Madam there’s nothing wrong with him..you don’t need to worry yourselves.
Martha: But doctor, why is he always having bad dreams? We didn’t sleep throughout last night. I thought it was a symptom of typhoid fever.

Dr. Mooba: smiling. It was just a mere nightmare. Children usually take the events that happened during the day to their dreams. A dream can be described as an event that happened as if it were real which eventually is unreal. It is like a paradox.
Martha: I even asked him whether he followed any of his friends to sew cloths but he said nothing as such..If i tell him to relate the dreadful dreams on the dungs hills you would be surprised.
Dr. Mooba: What has a refuse dumb got to do with the dreams?
Martha: It would neutralize the negative effect.
Dr. Mooba laugh over the matter..

Episode 5
Dr. Mooba: what has a refuse dump got to do with the dream?Martha: It would neutralize the negative effects..Dr. Sam laughs over it with disbelief what a superstition Madam!
Martha: You children of these days no longer respect and believe in traditional Customs. Civilization has uprooted our pumpkins. They are very incredulous and totally intractable. they look down on our cultural heritage as being antiquated and anachronistic. When there was no medical doctor our forefathers had used herbs to heal and cure various sickness and diseases.

These days things are apart as a result of civilization.
Dr. Mooba: In a nutshell, you are trying to convince me that the olden days are better than these days
Elijah: This is an open debate. There was nothing like Aids/HIV in the olden days. Children gave respect and listened to elders and the elders lived long to an old age. we didn’t imitate foreign customs by dressing in such a way that would attract sexual attention . Smugglers and arm robbers were not rampant like this: then we would leave our goods outside without their being stolen.

Once we indicate the price with anything the buyer would just drop the money and take the goods away without the presence of the seller. But these days such a transaction can’t be practised.
Dr. Mooba laughs and it will be stolen.
Elijah: In the olden days there was nothing like that.
Dr. Mooba: What of Infrastructural facilities like; pipe borne water hospital good roads telephone electricity and computer that improved the quality of life and makes life’s worth living?

Martha: To say the fact the standard of education these days has improved as a result of social amenities which has helped to make learning more meaningful effective and understandable. In spite of these facilities student can not speak English language fluently and correctly like in our time . They smoke cigarettes Indian hemp take step strong drinks and involve themselves in cultism examination malpractice mercenaries and so on. As a matter of fact students then we’re disciplined studious and industrious in learning than those of today.

In addition, despite the lack of electricity we used Koloboi (paraffin filled in a glass bottle with a cloth rope) to read at night. Then there was no means of transportation except by bicycle. we used to walk about twenty kilometers from the village to school everyday. After school we would go for the farm to assist our parents. How many children of these days can do that??? Despite the fact that the children of these days have access to education with provisions of social amenities they away their time with handset game films and other non profitable things but back then they hardly sent children to school especially the female child. They believed that a female child was difficult to sponsor because she could be impregnated and also the wealth acquired after her would go to her husband.

Mwaba: (laughing hysterically) No wonder illiteracy is prevalent among the olden women. There is one old woman with grey white hair at Chisala's house, she used to kneel for young ones when greeting them.
Dr. Mooba: Olden days life seems in this modern age rather incongruous and outrageous. It sounds ridiculous and archaic that an old woman would kneel to greet young children.
Martha: They have adapted to that habit. When my mother set a table for my father in those sausage would kneel down even when her husband was not around.

Dr. Mooba: What does that mean???
Martha: It means she respected, honoured and was submissive to her husband. This why divorce is rampant among the couples because the present day’s ladies are no longer respecting and honouring their husbands like our parents. Our fathers married more than two wives they lived happily and obeyed them as husbands. Biblically, every house wife is supposed to submit to her husband because he is the head of the home.
Mwaba: Traditional greeting is outmoded, but hugging is the order of the day. You know, we are now In the computer age not the typewriter age.
Martha: Interrupting You better keep your mouth shut and listen. When elders discuss, the children should remain quiet and listen attentively. You haven’t experienced life.
Dr. Mooba: Jokingly we can also learn from his experience. Nobody is above learning.

Elijah: No, doctor. I was not brought up in that system..Charity, they say begins at home. Our tradition demands kneeling and prostrating in greetings while hugging is a foreign custom.
Dr. Mooba: looking at his wristwatch… Anyway, it’s good to be disciplined. Do you know that we have spent more than one and half hour talking? Let me be on my way for now. I’m already behind time.
Martha: We really appreciate your response. Convey my greetings to Madam and children. Thank you so much.
Dr. Mooba: That’s alright. Okay, have a nice day…….. he bids Mwaba good bye.
Elijah accompanies him to his car.
